Whats the healthiest diet

There are SO many different diets and ways of eating that claim to be the best. Anyone out there with some quality knowledge about nutrition that has an opinion of the best (healthiest and maintainable) way to eat? Have examples?

I think eating veggies, fruits, lean meats ( if you eat meat in the 1st place), and lots of protein is your best bet and when you look at the ingredients of other food, if your can pronounce the ingredients and you know what they are, probably not as terrible for you as some other bad food. That's what I do. hope it helps0

the one that has a higher proportion of 'natural' foods (eg a mix of vegetables, fruits, lean meats, pulses & grains etc), and the 'diet' that you can sustain for the rest of your life.
Just use these foods get a decent mix of macro and micro nutrients, and there you have it!

It depends what you mean by "healthiest". If by that you mean the longevity of the people who follow it, that would be a traditional Japanese diet. Lot's of rice, veggies, fish, and sea vegetables. Actually, Monaco has the best longevity, but that probably has something to do with being able to afford great health care.0

The flexible one. You see grannies and gramps in newspapers talking about how they eat junk and all this crap and live well past 100. There's so much more to health than just food and people condemn too many foods and employ far too much restriction. With my diet, I'm reasonable. Unfortunately people need things spelled out for them but, really, it's about being flexible. I don't think of foods as healthy and unhealthy. If I want a chocolate, I'll make it fit my macronutrients and calories while also making sure I'm getting sufficient amounts of micronutrients. I think stress and lack of activity hurts health far more than food does.
In the end, I'll eat what I like within reason.0 -

I think this is spot on.
Whenever you read about a new diet to fight cancer or heart disease or just about anything else, the common factors is almost always lots of fruit and veggies, and usually with some lean meats, less processed grain etc.
Don't stress over what is "best" just aim to get the most nutrition you can from your calories but leave enough treats in there that it is sustainable.0 -
Thanks everyone, it was helpful and confirming to what I have been told. A good mix of natural foods with all of the food groups, whole grains (and certainly MEAT  ).
