Discouraging Friend :o(

So I took my before pictures last night, and wow, what a reality check. It was a real motivator for me. I told one of my friends that I had started running and took before pictures and she was not supportive at all. She basically said that since we're almost 30 now we should accept the fact that we're not going to be "skinny" forever, or look like we did in high school. I told her that I'm not trying to look like I did in high school, but I want to be healthy, fit and toned. I don't understand what is wrong with wanting to take care of myself? Aside from wanting to be healthy, what is so wrong with wanting to look good in a bathing suit? Very frustrating but I am determined to do this for ME. So thank you to everyone who has posted tips and success stories. I read them every day to keep me going...despite what anyone else says!

Sorry for saying this but what a mean 'friend'!!
Im 31 and want to stay healthy and fit and roughly the weight I was when I was in college. Nothing wrong with that, its totally fine that you want to look and feel your best.
Keep up the good work but it might be time to find a new friend.0 -
Don't let a negative Nelly bring you down.
You obviously have your head screwed on straight. I would avoid having these conversations with her at all cost. She is not going to be supportive ~ Wait until she sees you and you look great!!! Then she will realyl be jealous, and feel like she'sback in high school being judged all over again!
Use her negativity as your motivation . . . You can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
I think she's given up and wants everyone else to give up too so she doesn't feel bad. Show her all the picture of people who have lost weight on MFP. They look great, no matter the age.0

Just because you turn 30 doesn't mean you have to resolve to be fat and lazy! Sounds like your friend just gave up and doesn't want to work and wants everyone else to be miserable with them.
MFP isn't about being skinny, it is about getting healthy and being fit! You can do it and if your "friend" tells you differently, politely tell them to "keep their opinions to themselves".
There are MANY folks on MFP that are above 30 and have dropped from 10-100+ pounds.
You are doing a great thing for YOU.0 -
i agree with everyone!!! my friend did the same thing to me when i told her i started exercising. she rolled her eyes at me and said yeah ok, whatever. screw her. im doing this for me not for her!0

It sounds like your friend doesn't want to lose weight, therefore she can't understand why anyone else does. Keep doing what feels good for you and it might even motivate her to join in.0

Just ignore her and do it for yourself and I bet when you get to your goal weight she might be whistling a different tune.0
