May be suffering from a legitimate food addiction

Hi everyone! A little background - I've been consistently on MFP for about a month and a half now and I'm down 7lbs. I've never lost ANY weight in my LIFE before, only ever gained. I'm proud of how far I've come and I'm thankful for my friends/family both on here and IRL for supporting me so selflessly.

That being said, ever since I started using MFP, I've come to be extremely apathetic about EVERYTHING, I mean everything. It seems that all I care about, ever, is my diet. My boyfriend has voiced his concerns recently which really made me think. Something we've both considered is that before the diet I developed some sort of addiction to something in my food, or just food in general. Ever since I started here on MFP I've tried to control my binges. I used to binge on anything that was set in front of me - cheese, chocolate, cookies, cake, chips. I've eaten chips literally once in the past 2 months and have semi-successfully learned to seriously control junk food and find substitutes (once in awhile I can't help myself but I do try to control it). One other important note-after finding that coffee helps me focus at work, I've started drinking it over the past couple of weeks (1-2 8oz cups per day). I was not a coffee drinker prior to that. I am currently doing C25K and often do some extra cardio or weight lifting on top of that - I work out every other day, so 3-4 days a week.

All signs point to this new terrible attitude stemming from my dietary changes, but I'm not sure which ones. Has anyone else found this when changing their diet? Does anyone else have any advice to give? My boyfriend suggested breathing exercises or mediation, and I will definitely give those a shot.

I'm looking for all the support I can get! Thank you, MFP!

It's easy to overfocus a bit when making lifestyle changes. If you find that you tend to think about one thing to the exclusion of other interests or when your friends begin saying you are obsessive, sometimes it's good to check with a doctor. Some of us have a biochemical tendency towards addiction/overfocus. Food, of course, because of its effect upon our body chemistry, can be a trigger (or a symptom).

Pop by your GP and have them give you the once over. Always good to have them say "naw, you are fine" than let a potential imbalance manifest.
