So I do weigh everything but I weigh it after I cook it. I noticed in one thread someone said to weigh it before you cook it. What is everyone's take on that?

Thanks!

personally i weigh after i cook my food. I dont know if it really matters i would think consistency would be the biggest thing to worry about.

It just depends on how you log it-- what the description is. I weigh after cooking, but sometimes the entry can say "raw" too, and it would take into account the shrinkage from cooking.

i always weigh before cooking. i used to weigh after, and i was finding that i wasn't getting the most of my food. rice for example; 5 g of precooked is much more than 5 g of cooked.

edited b/c i don't know how to spell. LOL

I do everything before cooking, as cooking times/temperatures have a big difference on the final cooked weight.

It really depends what it is but mostly I weigh before cooking, if I am cooking rice, quinoa, pasta etc for myself I weigh it dry, if I am serving everyone I will weigh out my cooked portion.
But vegetables and potato (baked, new, sweet) I weigh after I've cooked it as I'm dishing it onto my plate!

I weigh meats and veggies before cooking. I usually measure grains by volume instead of weight.

It depends really, which ever way you measure you need to be sure that the measurement corresponds to the food in the DB, (ie if you measure cooked, make sure the DB entry is for cooked, if you measure frozen, you need a frozen DB entry) I personally weight as much as I can raw, but there are certain things that I have in my recipe section now like cooked rice and pasta that I have as a standard. but 99% of the time if I'm cooking myself, I measure raw. I usually weigh most stuff, but measure liquids in ml.
