Organic Question

I was looking at a box of Anne's organic mac and cheese and I noticed that is certified organic by Oregon Tilth, not the US Department of Agriculture.

Does anybody know if they have different standards? Can a company decide to ask one or the other to cerifty that their food is organic? I would think that the USDA Organic logo would be a better label to have on your box.

You would think so, but the USDA, in my humble opinion, is in bed with Monsanto (in other words, has been bought out). So, my guess is the states are making attempts to make the label 'organic' mean something you can trust with certainty.

" Last spring more than 200,000 people submitted comments to the USDA highly critical of the substance and conclusions of its draft EIS on GE Alfalfa. Instead of responding to these comments and concerns, including expert comments from farmers, scientists, academics, conservationists, and food safety and consumer advocates, the USDA has chosen instead to listen to a handful of agricultural biotechnology companies."

 That may have been true at one time but due to continued Governmental tinkering the FDA has no teeth now. My experience is that both Oregon and Californian organic labels are hard to come by due to the standards demanded by both States.
The Federal Governments oversight of food in America is probably at it's lowest point right now along with it's oversight of the environment in general and it's attitude to health. in general
