I got this from my daily Bally Total fitness tip of the day. ENJOY!

The Beauty Of Blading: Something For Everyone

No matter what your fitness goals, it's likely that in-line skating holds promise for you.

WEIGHT LOSS. The harder you blade, the more calories you'll burn.

BELOW-THE-WAIST TONING. Because it works the buttocks and thigh muscles so well, blading is a great choice for people for whom these are problem areas.

PROTECTING THE KNEES. Blading helps the knees in 2 important ways: As a low-impact exercise, it protects the knees. And because it strengthens the front thigh muscles (quadriceps), it also strengthens the knees.

SPORTS TRAINING. Blading can help you build strength, speed and power - all critical in almost any sport.

Awe, I miss blading  I used to blade a lot several years ago, but my balance just isn't what it used to be. The last time I went out on blades I thought I was going to kill myself.

Great exercise, wish I could still do it.

Your not the only one. I've skated on ice for 30 years. I can stop many many ways on ice, cut corners hard, etc. But on the road..... lol. if an emergency comes up, my first reaction is to stop or do something i would normally do on ice skates.

I love skating, and want to get better at blading, but I think my first mistake was I got a pair of hockey roller blades. (They don't have the stopper to brake) Last time i went blading, i ended using my instinct on a situation and had a mishap, and ended up with a big bruise on thigh/hip that was black and blue and bout 12 inches long.

I've heard you can use the T stop and drag your foot but it wears out the wheels?

Any opinions on best ways to stop I know not everyone uses that stopper?
Besides stepping off on grass, or turn big when you have the space.

The only way it's low impact is if you don't fall down!:ohwell:

I bought myself a pair of blades a year or two ago, along with a skateboard for the bf so we could skate together. Hadn't skated since I was 14, and I was pretty good then.

Now my balance is so off I'm scared to skate... my ankles just wobble back and forth and after a couple blocks my feet starting hurting like crazy (like I had been standing for 12 hours). I figure when I drop some weight it will be better.

As far as stopping... I use to turn my feet outwards (like Fred Flinstone) and it would spin me in a fairly tight circle about twice and I would come to a stop. I rarely used the brake on my skates. If all else fails, I would stop against parked cars or walls - arms stretched out to brace myself and give a cushion so I'm not hitting things. lol

I might put my blades on tonight and see how well I do, its been a few months since I've last attempted it.
