If you're not used to supportive shoes

I overpronate they say I need shoes with support but all of them that I've tried on make my feet somewhat sore...Is this just because I'm not used to having the support I need? Should I just give the shoes time to break in? Or do I really not need that much support?

A lot of it falls into the "it depends" category. By "they say" what do you mean? A podiatrist or a knowledgeable sales person doing a stride analysis at a specialty running shoe store? Or is this just the recommended setup from the shoe manufacturer? If it's not either of the first two, good chance that "they" know very little about what they are talking about.

Unless the shoe is just to narrow and pinching your foot, the shoe and your foot need time to adapt. If you're used to being barefoot or wearing something with really no arch support and go to a shoe with good arch support you will definitely feel it at first. Given a little while (few days to a week or so) you won't feel it anymore.

If you have not been to a specialty running store to get a stride analysis and custom fit done, I highly recommend doing so if a store anywhere near you does that. It's not a custom made shoe, just a custom fit where they try to find the very best shoe for your foot and running / walking stride.

i had this issue as well so I started off slowly with inserts that weren't as extreme as the shoe itself or the inserts in the shoes.

If it HURTS stop. If it is just Odd feeling than it may take time to get used to it. Work your way into it. Good luck.

I know I overpronate because I can feel it when I'm running in my old shoes, also the guy at the running store watched me walk and also said I overpronate. I'm not really used to having supportive shoes it feels kind of like a dull ache in the arch of my foot.
