My brother just graduated from App State! The really big things in that part of the high country are Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock. I was too busy visiting my brother when I was there to go, but all of the locals love them.
If you want something to do in town, go to King St. There are all sorts of neat little shops there. My favorite is Highway Robbery, you can get some nice silver Jewlery there for dirt cheap and the shop keep there is awesome!0 -

You'll be (or was) near me! Can't say that I have ever been down there. I heard that they have some good outlets tho!0 -

I went to Church at the Methodist church with my dad. He told me that his Sunday school teach is the chancellor at App State. He wasn't there that sunday he was out of town.
We drove thru the app state campus. it looked nice.
While we were there:
We camped at G.F. mountain campground.
We visited family.
We went to G.F. mountain.
We hiked up to Fat Rock tower at the Moses Cone park.
We went to the Mast General store.
We went gem mining at a tourist place.
We went to a concert in Blowing Rock to watch Dixie Daen play. That David Johnson is a phenominal musician.
We had a cookout.
We drove around a lot checking out the scenarie
Me and the kids waded into the Wautaga River in front of the campground. My niece fell in and got soaked. My son cut his foot on a rock and I stayed high and dry except for my ankles.0
