Woman's World Fat Flush Soup

I know there is already a thread about this...but I asked a question on it, and nobody answered it...so I'm trying again! So, here's my question.

I made this soup last week...and I thought it was a little bland. Any suggestions? I followed the recipe exactly, except after I "browned" my meat, I cooked it in the crockpot for awhile, thinking it would help with the flavor. For my meat choice I used 99% fat free ground white turkey. I don't know if that was the problem or not, because it does tend to be pretty dry and tasteless...but I was thinking about my calories.

So, any suggestions to boost flavor without adding calories? Perhaps some more/extra spices?? Also, what could I switch out the vegetable cocktail juice for? Never been a fan...and it makes the soup too watery for me.

Here is a link to the recipe for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about

I would definitely add more garlic - that never hurts. And I would use the Reduced Sodium Hot & Spicy V-8. I think that has much more flavor than the regular. and I would definitely add the can of tomatoes, but would use the kind that has chili peppers added, like the Rotel brand. When you're browning ground turkey, I always add garlic and some chili powder to it to spice it up a bit. Good luck!

Youre using lean ground turkey and cooking in the crock pot? It will always get dry because there isnt enough fat to balance the meat.

You need a protein in there that HAS fat. Save the ground turkey for something else....

Personally speaking, Im not a fan of bottled-anything. Even reduced-sodium V8-anything is still too much sodium... Id be changing this recipe to be 100% fresh to be honest.

Herbage: Grab fresh herbs - and adjust to your own liking - add some fresh chiffonade of basil leaves in there, definitely more gahhhhhhhhhhlic.

I wouldnt be using a crockpot at all for this type of soup. Even if you used the beef, its gonna come out dry and seedy.

If you have your heart set on having the ground turkey ... have your soup in the pot on the stove....

Saute your ground turkey with some of the same spices and use more olive oil to do the saute. MAKE SURE that turkey is cooked thoroughly...

Ladle the soup in a bowl, but THEN add your cooked ground-turkey to your bowl. USE SOME OF THE FAT DRIPPINGS from the pan... your body does need fat.

Well, I am sauteing the turkey...I'm not cooking the turkey in the crock pot haha. I just put everything in the crock pot (turkey already browned) to warm it up- mostly because I don't have a pot big enough for the stove to put it all in. And yes, I always make sure it's cooked thoroughly. I DO use fresh herbs...but I'm a busy person and don't really have the time to make everything 100% fresh- I barely have time to make it to the grocery store to buy the ingredients!

And thank you, I do know that my body needs fat. I get from other sources as well, so cutting the fat from this recipe where I can will be okay, trust me :) I'm not a bigger person, so it's a lot harder for me to loose weight. At my size, it would NOT be healthy to loose more than 1 lb a week. I'm also really trying hard to tone up, so clean eating is a must!

Tamheath- thank you! I'm definitely going to be trying it your way!

Had you been more specific in your OP, I would not have made some of the suggestions that I did previously. But, by pre-browning the turkey and adding to the crockpot, then you are creating the dry-seedy texture that is normally created when using ground turkey.

If you claim to want to do 'clean eating', then that would mean doing 100% fresh... You sorta contradicted yourself...

In all fairness, cramernh, you were really rude right out of the box for no apparent reason. Hope everyone has a nice day, and turns down the rudeness.
