Hi I am new here and would like someone to look at my food diary. I am 45 and want to lose 20-25 pounds and when I said I want to loose 2 pounds a week it calculates that I can only loose .6 a week! Why is that?

Thanks for any suggestions you may have for me.

I hate to admit this but I haven't been able to commit to an excersize routine in years so I'm just working on the food part for now. There I said it!

    Hello and welcome!

I'm a relative newbie as well, but I've had a wee look at your diary. Probably the reason it won't let you lose 2lbs a week is because it considers 1200 calories to be a minimum for good health. It won't tell you to eat less - in fact, on the days that you do it'll have a wee message saying that you're not eating enough calories. Good health trumps weightloss goals here, if someone's goal would lead to too few calories then the system adjusts the goal rather than the calories.

I've only looked at a few days, but it looks like you're often going under your calories, sometimes by a bit and sometimes by a lot. I really do recommend that you eat your full calorie allowance every day - aim for 1200 or even very slightly over. I know that it seems counter-intuitive - surely eating less would make you lose weight faster - but it just doesn't work that way. The body needs fuel and if it doesn't get enough it throws a hissy fit. Eat 1200 good quality calories and your system will give you a big cuddle!

And drink loads of water too - you might be though (I know I always forget to add in my water).

Take this weightloss thing slow and steady. That's probably not what you want to hear, but if it's done sensibly it'll stay off.

Great advice about eating more to loose. I have gone to 1200 cal/day and I am loosing 2-3 pounds a week. I am working out six days a week though. The reminder about the water is just what I learned as well, the program I am on recommends 100ozs a day to help flush out the toxins and fat you are burning.

I was wondering how can you see someone elses diary??

    Hi,

I looked at a couple days of your food and you are keeping your calories in check but I have found you really need to eat an ounce or two of a lean protein with all your meals otherwise you might be triggering too much insulin and that shuts down your metabolism. Also I agree with the other reply that mentions drinking more water, my program suggests 100ozs a day.

    Good luck.

Thank you for your comments. I will drink more water and make sure there is a protein in every meal.
