Boys and I went to an art festival today. Walked about 4 blocks from parking lot to actual festival, meandered around the different displays sat and watched a band play then carried my 42lb 4 yr old the four blocks back to the car. I wasnt planning to count any of it (also did 30DS this evening) but I was curious what other ppl would do? IMO it's just my normal activity level being a mom.

I agree that it's part of being a mom and not to count it. Better to underestimate the calories burned than overestimate, right?

I sometimes add mine. Like if we go for a walk and I end up having to carry her the whole time. I only log it if it's over 15 mins. Log under walking carrying 15lb load or infant even tho my 3 year is not no were near 15 lbs lol

I wouldn't, I only count exercise when I actively go and go it.

But i guess if its something that you normally wouldn't do (ie walking the 4 blocks), then I guess you could.

I wouldn't; just like I won't count or even think of the 4 hrs of yard work-Weeding, raking and mowing I did today as exercise.
  • thanks! glad I'm not the only one. I do however log mowing the grass since it's a once a week activity with a push mower (no power assist) with a little bit of hills thrown in

Only count it if your basic profile is set to sedentary.

^true! i don't count anything like that, i have my activity level set to sedentary even though as a sahm im anything but. I look at it as a safety net in case my exercise log is a little off

GIRL! You carried the kid 4 blocks. That's a lot! I would count it. Why not give your self a little credit!! GOOD JOB MOMMA!!

    Seems like a reasonable approach.

I don't but I've seen people count it. I figure it is about equal to what I do during a normal work day, just outside.

I agree. I benefit from the motivation of logging as much activity as I can, so I set my profile to sedentary and log everything. I'm aware of, and try to adjust, the overestimates. But being able to log each activity lets me realize the work I'm doing to improve my health. May change that when I switch over to "maintenance". Not sure.

If people count "housework" as exercise then this counts!!!
