Me Again! (a cautionary tale)

Hey Everybody!

My name is GumbyAnne and I'm doing this for the second time. In 2009 I lost a total of 63 pounds with the help of MFP. I kept it off of a year and then in 2011 and 2012, after going through some big personal changes in my life, I have gained back all but 10 pounds.

I have absolutely no doubt that I can lose the weight now because FOR GOD'S SAKE, I DID THIS BEFORE! I just need to remember my own advice:

-Have healthy snacks and eat them BEFORE you get a chase to get too hungry.
-Exercise more frequently, even if it's hard. It gets easier fast when you stay at it regularly.
-Eat the unhealthy stuff in moderation. A tiny piece of cake really is just as satisfying as a giant piece.
-Think ahead and avoid situations and people that will lead me astray, at least at the beginning.

So anyway, I'm back! Better late than never.

Also, don't let this be you a year from now. I would SO much rather have maintained my weight loss than be losing it all over again.

Welcome back. The important thing is you have the desire to change.

I've lost 50-60lbs twice and put it all back on. This is my 3rd time around the block and i hope this time is different, God willing.

This is my first time. I put on 20 pounds and I'm a healthy eater, but think maybe my calories are too high so decided to try this after a friend posted on FB about this. I'm very excited.
  • Welcome back to the healthy side!! We all have those personal stressors that completely derail us sooo....with that being said, it's never too late to jump back on the train and begin again!
    Kudos to you for sharing!!!
Good luck with your goals and feel free to add me if you like!

Hi, that is great advice! I too have a similar tale and feel the same way. I'm a 40+ year old female with kids. I've lost weight off and on for years as much as 40 lbs; however to no avail, I've put it all back on and then some. Now that I'm older and post having my children; it is so much more of a struggle to get the scale to move in the right direction. Although I know how too loose weight, I'm finding that it is so hard to even loose a few pounds. The weight seems much more stubborn now, my metabolism is slower, and my energy level has decreased. This has made me feel really discouraged. So instead of working harder, I've been sabotaging my self by doing the opposite of what I should be doing andhave gained more weight, which has put me at risk for some health issues. So rather than focusing on the scale, I'm trying to change my mind set and focus on better health (improving my blood pressure; decreasing my percentage of body fat, improving my BMI etc., ) and use that as a gauge. I've started a new fitness workout in hopes it will give me a boost of energy and motivation to make this a lifestyle change. My main concentration will be healthy eating, and exercising regularly.

A friend told me about this site, and we're going to be embarking on this health and well being journey together. I'm excited to be doing something new and siked that I have a support buddy.

Thank-you for sharing your story. I feel like I fell off the wagon and then it ran over me. I am 40+ and have gained and lost 100 lbs 3 times. Each pregnancy shot me way up there and then I have to fight my way down. My youngest is 4 and I have 20 more to lose. I was 10 lbs less last fall, but gained it over the winter. I want to stop the upward trend now. I just get frustrated with myself. I want a quick fix to get back to where I was in Oct. But your advice makes sense. I need to focus on the things I know work and move forward from here. I will send you a friend request. I need some support.
