First off--I have recently found that I actually LIKE to run. Go figure. I completed a 5k a couple months back and have made the decision that May 1 2010 is going to be the day I run my first half marathon.
I'm terrified! I found a training schedule and I'm not looking to win any speed prizes...I just want to finish. Is there anybody in the Columbus, OH area that wants to give it a go with me?
Any clues/support is awesome cuz I'm going to need it!

That's just like me! I just started running and I always thought I'd hate it, but now that I go everyday, I love it! I'm not in Ohio though, I'm in Canada... But good luck with your running!!!0

Good for you! I recently started running too. I am working my way up to a half marathon in Oct. I don't think I will actually be able to run the whole thing, but even finishing will be a great accomplishment for me.
Some of the good pieces of advice that have been given to me are
- Couch to 5K is great
- chew gum while running to keep your mouth moist, and mask the heavy breathing
- wear socks meant for running (less blisters and absorbs moisture)
- run more on the balls of your feet while going downhill to avoid injuring your knees (have yet to try this)
- pump your arms when going uphill and you need that little extra energy to get to the top. Your legs will follow your arms. But be careful not to do this too much since you expend more energy and will get tired faster
- keep your arms, hands and shoulders relaxed to avoid neck and shoulder pain
- give yourself at least one day to rest between runs
If you get any other tips please pass them on to me.
Good luck and have fun!0
