Jeffrey Archer - Kane and Abel (without a doubt, one of the best books I've ever read)
Jeffrey Archer - Sons of Fortune (an easy read, but still good)

Also love anything by James Patterson. Highly recommend Kiss the Girls (creepy thriller, but very good).

Edited to add: Make sure you read Kiss the Girls in the day time. I was in Rome (I'm from Australia) in a hotel where the reception have a key to the room as well. I didn't sleep well that night, as I read the entire book in a few hours in the night time. :noway:

James Patterson - I have about 5 of his books that my friend gave me and I have yet to read them. Sadly I dont have that one. Are his other books good?

i didn't know Steve-O had a book... and I probably would read that. I love reading things that are effed up! People don't really get the books I read sometimes. =P

I love his Women's Murder Club series. It helps to read from 1 to 11 in order (there's a storyline that threads through them all and it can get a tiny bit confusing if you jump around to different books).

I've just finished reading Swimsuit. It was ok, not one of his better ones though. He's my favourite author. I have so many of his books, I've lost count. I have yet to start Don't Blink and Toys.

I'm currently reading a Maggie Alderson book called Handbags and Gladrags. I actually enjoyed reading her book Pants on Fire. Easy read.

Edited to add: If you like reading those effed up books you said, try a book called Room. I can't for the life of me remember who wrote it, but it's about this lady and her son who have been brought up in an isolation room as they were abducted years ago. Freaky book!

Actually just remembered another James Patterson book which was the very first one I read of his. From memory, I think it was called The Midnight Club. I read it while travelling through Italy (the year before the Rome story last year) and it was brilliant! One of his better ones too.

Have you read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series? Love them!

I'm a massive book hoarder...I'm looking for a really nice book case to put all my books in.

I just looked at the books I have from James Patterson
    The 9th Judgment
    10th Anniversary
    Cross Fire
    Kill Me If You Can
    Kill Alex Cross
    The Christmas Wedding

I JUST got the Dragon Tattoo series so that *might* be the ones I read next.

I looked up Room too... Looks awesome!

Janet Evonivich is good. Her Numbered series is hilarious. My all time favorite series was by Terry Goodkind, The Sword of Truth series. The books are HUGE, and there are 12 I think. I finished the whole series in one year because I could not put them down!

The Alex Cross books of James Patterson are fantastic too (Cross Fire, Kill Alex Cross....etc). He's the protagonist of Kiss the Girls. Do you remember the movie with Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd of Kiss the Girls? The book is wayyyy better!

9th Judgement and 10th Anniversary are the ones from the Women's Murder Club. Like I said, start from beginning if you can! The 8th one has the best twist in it!

Almost anything by James Patterson is very good- Kiss the Girls was good and so was Along Came a Spider .

Sentence of Marriage by ShayneParkinson- not really a romance but a story about a girl in the early 1900's who's forced into a marriage and her life.

Of course the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - if you haven't read them yet. Or the The Hunger Games books also if you haven't read them yet

I like the author Iris Johansen.. Forensic type books-

Also Patricia Cornwell is excellent- involve Dr Kay Scarpetta- the TV show Bones- was based on this character. Again Forensics

    Tami Hoag is also good

I also like Charlene Harris--- (True Blood was based on these books, although they can be a little out there)

There's so many more.... Don't know if this is your taste
    Good Reading.

I'd say Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It's mostly historical fiction, a little tiny smudge of sci-fi fantasy, and (gasp!) a strong thread of romance, though I wouldn't even put it in the same category as a romance novel (though often you'll find it in the section since bookstores don't know where to put it). Gabaldon is a great writer, and though I don't typically go for books like this, she just sucked me right in.

Game of Thrones is also good, but I hated it for a while. Anyone who has read it can probably guess why. I'm more of a happily ever after type person, since I have enough troubles in my own life and use books as an escape from that. But he's a good writer.

Most of my recommendations would probably come from the sci-fi/fantasy section, and I know that's not everyone's cup of tea. Escapist reading, at best. :drinker:

Way of Kings (and most Brandon Sanderson are entertaining)
    Name of the Wind
    Hawkspar
Kushiel's Dart series (some people might find this series disturbing, but I found the choice of characters intriguing since they weren't typical)

    Just a few there.
