*SNAKES*

<<<< CHECK OUT THIS BIG MAAMA JAAMA. Thought I'd share because she was magnificent. She was hiding in the bushes on our hike and my boyfriend saw her ( I have no idea how, we were walking when he spotted it) he told me run, she was only 2ft away and close to 4ft long if not more and fat as heck. SO, there we are on the trail, with a snake inbetween us cause when he said run, I turned around and ran, lol:laugh: . We had to wait about 10min for her to move, but I got some awesome shots of her crossing our trail, in-between us. I'm pretty sure she wanted to eat me because she started heading in my direction quickly lol. But I stood on top of a big giant rock as she was coming toward me and she turned around and went the other direction, no idea if it had anything to do with me moving to the rock but hey, I'll take it... that's when I snapped this AWESOME picture!!! SO AMAZING to watch it was defenitly the highlight of my weekend.

Be carful out there fellow hikers, this is the 2nd one we've seen in the last 2wks hiking. Still very neat to observe.

Happy Hiking:drinker:

what state are you hiking in? I saw a cute little gardener snake sunning himself on a rose bush in Nebraska the other day! ;-)

    Gives me the heebie jeebies!

I did a hiking class last semester for Geology type stuff... had to watch out for them all the time. You can walk right on one without thinking about it or put your hand in rocks and next thing you know you get bit. That's great you didn't get bit... FREAKY that you got chased though!! Glad you made it a fun experience.

Were in southern california. We were hiking in the clevland national forest. We did another hike 2wks ago and there was also a gardner snake sunbathing in the middle of the trail. They are just so neat to watch when they aren't feeling threatened. This picture isn't even the best I've got. I have one of her a couple of feet away heading straight for me.

    I love snakes!...if they aren't poisonous...
when I younger, my babysitter had three Boas. Natas, Damien, and the third I can't remember her name. Damien was tiny and mean, Natas was HUGE (I'm talking "I will eat your great dane" huge) but she was blind and very nice.

You must be a Kiwi! Us Aussies have some of the most deadly in the world. Main reason I avoid the bush 6 months of the year and don't let me dogs walk through the long grass in the fields nearby!!! Yuck!

Yuh huh. The snakes and spiders are pretty much what stops me from moving to Oz!

That's amazing. I live in England, so just about the most interesting animal native to us is like a Daddylong legs, or some *kitten*.

I'm in NY now, but living in Florida was an adventure:

    Alligators in neighbor pools

Rattlesnakes in car engines (happened to my dad. Went to change the oil and there it was, nice fat rattlesnake on his engine block)

Cockroaches the size of your freakin' head (or at least they felt that way)

    Ants...lots and lots of ants.

Spiders...including these little crazy looking red spiders.

And lovebugs. ANYONE ELSE outside of Florida see this stupid things? They literally fly...umm..."connected". They don't bite, but they're like clouds and they do nasty things to car paint.

And now we can add those 9-pound rats in South Florida, the boas/pythons morons let loose in the Everglades (and now some apparently are cold-resistant).

Kind of one of the ONLY good things about living in Buffalo. No real bugs.

HA! St Patrick got rid of those... thank you very much for that. Or else I would never leave my window open, always check the toillet before sitting, sleep with the lights on...
