Help With Knees

Hey all!
I've been having this nagging and unbearable knee pain since about November. Finally went to the Orthopaedic Dr. last week who said that I have knees that tilt inwards and arthritis under my knee caps (I'm only 23!!!) Anyway, he said no running for a MINIMUM of 8 weeks while I do physical therapy. He also said I'll probably never be able to run hills. My question is if anyone knows any PT exercises that I can do to strengthen my quads and the outsides of my knees so that I don't have to keep paying for PT since insurance won't cover most of it.
Thanks in advance for help/advice.

Swimming is probably the best workout you can get while you're injured. Check out gyms with pools or community centers. Take it easy you won't heal if you push yourself too hard. Good luck!0
