What happens during a Physical?

I decided I should probably get some bloodwork done and an overall physical for my health. I don't think I have ever had a true physical. What exactly do they do during one of those?

The standard is (at least here in Canada) bloodwork done. Doctor asks about your history, concerns, issues, etc than does a breast exam and pelvic exam. It doesn't usually take long at all.

It may be a little different from doctor to doctor, but mine does: height/weight, BP, complete blood work (blood sugar, cholesterol, iron levels, etc), checks eyes, ears & reflexes, and a urinalysis. He can do a breast exam or pap smear too, but I choose to go to my ob/gyn for that (I have a history of female issues, biopsies of the cervix & breast, hysterectomy, etc. so I prefer the specialist).

As you get older or if your family history warrants it, you'll get more tests as your doctor sees fit. For example, I am 50 so just had a bone density scan for the first time a few months ago (painless, didn't even have to get undressed).

I hate being poked and prodded, but I sleep better knowing I'm okay.
