Good morning.
I went for a brisk walk this morning. I did not have it in me to run. We had a rough night with Alex. We finally had to move him in our room so we could get some sleep. I didn't realize we had a newborn in the house. I woke up at 6 ish and couldn't go back to sleep. :grumble: So I figured the next best thing would be a walk. A nap is in order today I believe.
Other than a nap I need to:
clean
decide whether to take Alex out of town tomorrow or not (yes it's that bad)
visit with his OT
finish laundry
eat healthy
Sleepy grumpy boogaloo.

Morning!
Today I'm trying the morning spin class again. I just have to go in, burn some calories and not listen to the chatty Cathys. That's my goal. I need to learn, in general, to not worry about what other people are doing and not let it effect me. It's a life lesson I'm working on.
Then, after a trip to the market, I have to come home and write. I'm waiting for a water cooler cleaner guy, then I'm going to try to get a haircut either today or tomorrow.
Also, I had coffee for the first time in weeks. Zing! Pow! I feel pretty awake.
Sorry Alex is having/giving you a hard time. Hope that gets better.
Take care, pebbs.:flowerforyou:
Oh, and in case you're interested, here are the most common food allergens, according to my nutritionist (I had no idea on some of these):
coffee, beef, pork, wheat/yeast, corn, eggs, soy and dairy. Those are all the things I'll have to give up/re-introduce in about a month when I'm ready to commit the time. . .0 -
I just stepped on the scale and I am down to pounds. Let's just hope they stay gone. I think I've been having too much starch and that's why the weight hasn't been coming off. I forget about starch, especially when I am focusing on things like wheat or sugar.
Thanks V. I hope we have a good smooth day today. And I hope your spin class goes well. Sometimes I am able to block people out but that can also be a problem because when they do finally say something specifically to me I do not usually hear the first time. lol.

A friend of mine has an allergy to coffee - she used to drink buckets of it too. She did the elimination diet to find out what was bothering her - she quit being a veggie during that time though. I couldn't even imagine - what would I eat? Veggies and rice - but without tamari! Quinoa without nuts! The horror, the horror.
I'm going to have to reinforce the "no eating unless sitting down" rule again. I gained a few over vacation and the bad habits came right back. Also have a birthday party tonight and our wedding anniversary in two weeks. We were planning on going to Vancouver, but alas, didn't have the cash (my generous parents took us to California), so we are just going to some nice restaurants. I will have to plan my desserts. Desserts only at restaurants with a pastry chef, is a pretty good rule.
Didn't make it to yoga yesterday. Today - biking errands. We'll see how long I can last.

Either I was in a better mood today, or the class was a bit quieter. It was also super-intense, so that shut them up!
I love it when people say to me "oh my god that class was so hard! waaah!" and I have to fight the urge to say "Oh, was it? I didn't notice?" (OK, I did notice some, but it would be fun to say it just once to a skinny-fat person).
Oddly enough, nuts aren't something I have to eliminate in the elimination diet. She pretty much said "if you were allergic to nuts, you'd know it." It's not a digestive sort of allergy, but tends to do things like send you straight to the hospital. She also said that the number one cause of bloating is soy, as it just naturally causes you to retain water, even if you tolerate it well (which, apparently, a lot of people don't.) I've been avoiding it because of what it does to your hormones, and the last time I went to the gyno, all of my ovarian cysts were gone. . .and I've had them for years. Interesting, no?. . .0 -
Many people don't understand the difference between soy and tofu. According to (either Pollan or Nestle, I can't remember), when soybeans are fermented the plant estrogens are lessened - as in the making of tofu and soy sauce. In my own brain, I can't see anything wrong with edamame (just soybeans - usually steamed). On the other hand, soy products are no different to me then processed flour. As much as I love soy nuggets and the like, I consider it a minor junk food (has a few redeeming nutrients and is not quite soda, the ultimate junk food).
I also think food allergies (and allergies in general) are a 21st century issue. I think they are a result of processed food and so much indoor time. I'm not saying they aren't real, they are - I have them. I do think it's interesting to note other culture's allergies. For example, Indian's (from India) are rarely allergic to peanuts - they don't roast them.

Oops! I started to post yesterday and then never finished it (that's what happens when I try to sneak in at work).
Major accomplishment (a.k.a. tooting my own horn for a minute)! I was really close to bailing out of the trail run last night (it was starting to sprinkle), but I went anyway. Then I started getting nervous in the parking lot as all these "real runner" types started showing up and talking to each other. Finally a guy from the running store that sponsors the runs comes over to me and fills me in, and assures me that someone will hang back at the end so nobody gets lost. And... I did it! It was a little over an hour of running (although I had to walk a few of the hills after awhile - very steep!), around 4.5 miles I think, on single-file trails with lots of ups and downs and only a little mud. According to my HRM, I burned about 660 calories, but I am guessing it was more like 700 since I saw the HRM drop to 80 once or twice (it started slipping as I got more sweaty). I was super tired, and finished WAY behind most of the people there, but I finished! I am so proud of myself for trying something that was so hard and intimidating. Two years ago I would barely have been able to hike that trail without huffing and puffing - much less jog it.
It is interesting that I am differently sore today than usual. For one thing, my right arm is sore (we had our dept picnic yesterday and I played frisbee for an hour or so - which was some extra running around). My butt is sore from running (which is unusual), as well as the sides of my calves (not sure what muscle that is - I feel the stretch when I roll my ankles slightly out). I think that trail running is probably a much more balanced exercise than the treadmill, since you have to engage more muscles to keep your balance, etc, on uneven terrain. I just have to work on keeping up!
So today is a rest day for me. I think I convinced my husband to go see Food, Inc. with me tonight (although he said, "it's just going to be about how all corporations are evil, right?" ). Mary, I agree with you about the allergies. And I'm grateful that I don't seem to have any food sensitivities (although I have seasonal allergies, and tend to get a stomachache if I eat a very fatty meal - most likely due to no gall bladder). I don't know how I would manage with an elimination diet - no wheat, corn, soy or dairy? It would be oatmeal, rice and beans all day!
