NROLFW and # of Sets Question

So I began the New Rules of Lifting for Women program this week and I had a question about the number of sets. For week 1, the book recommends 2 sets of 15 reps for each exercise. I have been doing more than 2 sets of each exercise because I want to push myself and know that I am capable of more than 2, but I was wondering if there were any adverse effects to this? Do they recommend only 2 sets because any more than 2 isn't worth it or something? I don't want to be doing all of this extra work just to have it cause more harm than good.
Also I am definitely working myself to muscle exhaustion during each set. Sometimes I can't make it to 15 so I also feel like I should be doing more sets because of that, but even when I do make it to 15, I usually add a set or two depending on the exercise.
Thanks.
