So, this summer I will be a camp counselor for 3 weeks and won't really have much control over what is put in front of me, any tips to help me continue losing or at least maintain? I don't want to undo all of my hard work!

Replies

  • You can eat whatever is in front of you, food is not the enemy! You are!

Just try and eat smaller, more frequent portions. And if you feel full, STOP EATING! I know I am so bad at that! I will eat even if i'm so full my pants are ripping if the food is good enough!

And try to opt for healthier choices,
    chicken nuggets vs Bacon Burger
    Fruits instead of chips
    LOTS OF WATER

and try to stay active! Won't be too hard as camp counselor!
Have fun and Don't give up!
    Good luck!

thanks, yeah I will be active - as much as I want to keep losing at camp, I'll be happy to maintain. I'll just have to be extra careful with portions - hard for me as I love to clean my plate!

As a former camp counselor for numerous programs, you will still have some (amount varies) personal time that you can use to exercise or destress or refocus. Have fun with the kids and I agree with the above poster, limit portion sizes, stay hydrated, choose better options when available. Bring healthy snacks with you so you don't hit vending machines. If you are on any dietary restrictions as result of food insenstivities or allergies or religious limitations, try to talk with the camp cooks/kitchen staffs as they often try to work with those (mixed results with vegetarian/vegan or personal choices like lo-fat diet, lo-carb diet, all meat, or whatever diet you might be on). You may be able to store something in the kitchen for those really unhealthy days.

I agree... just eat smaller portions... don't drink your calories.... and when I was working the camp circuit back about 10 years ago (wow! that makes me feel old) there was always fruit and vegetables available. But I was burning a ton of calories just doing my duties back then (but I was also a lifeguard and ropes course facilitator, among other things)... also, if you make nice with the kitchen staff, they may cook something special for you... like baking the chicken strips instead of frying them.

Good luck and have fun (and I'm jealous!)
