Wow, I am so pleasantly surprised at my efforts thus far. Usually when I start a program like this I go for 2-3 weeks and get bored. I was so scared of a 20 minute run but on my way to the track I played encouraging music and kept telling myself that I could do it. I decided to run at a slow pace to make sure I could do it. As the run continued I was able to push myself to go faster and faster. Eventually I lost track of my timing and when I finally stopped, I had run for 21 minutes, 17 seconds and about 1.75 miles. And I didn't feel short of breath - I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE RUN A BIT FASTER.

I had never run for more than 10 minutes straight in my ENTIRE LIFE.

After this, I signed up for my first 5k on July 4th. I can't believe the progress I have made! I hope this provides some inspiration for those of us who are considering starting C25k - I never in a million years thought I would be able to run for almost 2 miles without stopping! If you are considering starting, I highly recommend it. I am so proud of the progress I have made and am always so thrilled to find how far I can push myself. It will be one of the best things you will ever do for your body!

Good job! The key to it really is to slow down. You can work on speed later. I'm on week 8 now. I did my first 5K yesterday in hot temps (85 yuck) so didn't do nearly as well as I'd hoped. Oh well!

    Good for you!

I started C25K in December and run regularly now. Trust me, I have never been a runner!

Don't push yourself too hard. You don't wat to injure yourself.

Wow! Congratulations! I start Week 5, Day 2 today and I am scared. Although I am able to run the 5 minutes straight, it still is a challenge for me. I didn't realize it would progress so quickly until I read your post. I was like "What? I'm not running for 20 minutes straight and I'm on week 5." Then I looked at my C25K app and said "oh crap." I'm a recent non-smoker (16 weeks ago) and the thought of my lungs having to push me for 20 minutes straight scares the crap out of me! I hope I can do it.

I repeated weeks 3 and 4 two or three times each. Then I repeated W5D1 and 2 two or three times each. Avoiding that W5D3. When I finally decided I'd try it, I was SURE I couldn't do it, but decided to see how far I could get. And I made it the entire way, and probably could have gone a couple more minutes at least. Don't feel bad if you choose to repeat some days or weeks. Sometimes it's worth it to prepare yourself mentally as well as physically! But, like others have found, I think you'll be surprised at what you could do. I know I was!
