Belly Fat !!!! Ugggg!!!

Does the belly fat every really go away? Is there anyone out there who was over 250 lbs. and had a large belly and after the weight loss, had a flat belly? Or at least got it down to a pooch belly only? Does the skin always just hang? I'm so discouraged.

If it really bothers you, and it's just loose skin hanging there, you can get it surgically removed. Or you can just try to keep working to tone that area and the skin should stay tight enough, I think. The second option can take a really long time, but the first has scarring and all the complications that come with surgery. It's up to you.

I sadly have just started my adventure in weight loss, so I don't have that flat belly yet ;P

You can't tighten the skin. You will need to have it removed. One thing that i found keeps my "belly fat" in check is watching carbs. For me lots of carbs=lots of belly

I have resigned myself to the fact that I wont ever lose that skin. But I wont be wearing any bikinis, anyway so I can live with it. :)

I just found out this morning that belly fat on a woman releases estrogen, so I figure its a trade off. I will probably lose SOME of the fat by losing weight, but I I keep some, thats ok.....anything that helps keep my mustache from growing is a plus.

I don't have photobucket, but look in my photos. There is a photo there that shows how much belly fat I lost in one month!

I must admit it is the most annoying part of my body and I am still fighting to get it under control. I've noticed that since I started eating more clean and running that it has gone down. I used to have that cow stomach thing, but not anymore! :drinker:

The key to losing belly fat is lowering your fat overall. I shoudl tighten up the smaller you get.

I don't think that's true: you CAN tighten the skin, but it takes dedication and patience. Agree about watching simple carbs, but complex carbs are a great way to shape the waist.

My tummy got flat after I lost 200 pounds, but the skin remained. I hid it well with support wear. Thankfully last summer I was able to get it removed. Mentally I now feel "whole" again.

I am the pure definition of the APPLE body type. I would say 80% of my fat is between my shoulders and my hips. I have always had a "pooch" belly even as a little kid. One of the reasons I always thought I was fat even when I was skinny. I never had a flat belly. Took me 40+ years to accept the fact that I'm never going to have a flat belly unless I get a tummy tuck.

From what most people say and what I have read, over time some of the skin will tighten back up, losing the weight will make it disappear. Keep your skin moisturized, drink lots of water! But it takes lots and lots of time. One thing I read said if you gained the weight in 3 years it could take 3 years for the skin to shrink back. Well took me 20+ years to gain it so I might be in my 70's by the time that happens! LOL

Just keep at it..........exercise, diet, drink water, etc. Give it time!

I started at 342. I am down to 160 now. there is still some skin. But, it did get better. It took a lot of time, and I am not ruling out surgery yet, but it is better.

No... you really can't tighten the skin. I went from 273 pounds to 134- 17% body fat. And so much loose skin I looked like a sharpei. I did rubs, lotions, vitamins, anything I could find that said it would help. Surgery is the only true remedy if you want a taut tummy. It's really frickin' depressing. I wound up putting on weight just to fill it back out a little and feel human. But I don't like being fat anymore than I like being a deflated balloon... so new plan is to get this weight back off and get the surgery financed.

Tons of water, cardio, and crunches.. I'm not loosing that much.. but I'm a little worried about it too. Water helps your skin bounce back.

Not true! You don't have to have it surgically removed. Cosmetic surgery is a billion dollar industry, they will say whatever it takes to sell you the need to have procedures done. Most people aren't willing to put in the work (and the wait). The key is weight training. If you loose slowly and start strength training now, your skin will eventually tighten up (and by eventually, I mean after a very long period). My trainer told me this, and says he's seen it plenty of times. If you're young, age will work to your advantage, but no fad dieting. Years of yo-yoing can make it harder b/c your skin looses elastisicity as it shrinks and expands over and over. I've only lost 40 lbs and already have noticed my "hang-age" rising further and further up my hips. Squats, lunges, core routines, cycling, running and yoga have been my saving grace so far, and I honestly believe that my pouch will keep shrinking with time.

Check out this article for a good read on the subject. Pretty long, but in depth. http://www.bodyfatguide.com/LooseSkin.htm

Thanks Tai, I laughed when I read "cow belly." I tend to call mine "the dangle." There are some days that I feel like I feel myself shrinking all over except for my "dangle." Ugggg! I haven't even dropped a pant size because it won't shrink at all, however, the legs of pants are so baggy. I look like a ham on toothpicks. I'll just keep going and see how much of it I can lose in a month.
