Water retention from salt?

Yesterday I weighed 168 and today I weighed 176, I know I didn't eat 27000 calories to gain 8 pounds overnight. So I think it's from the salt that I have recently been having. Just wondering how long it generally takes for water retention to go away? I was doing really good with my weight loss and after seeing that number on the sce it kind of bummed me out.

Drink tons of water! I know it sounds crazy but it works. If you watch your salt and drink tons of water it should only take about a day for it to go down.....0

Your body is also going to retain water during muscle recovery, so if you started a new work-out program that might be contributing to it as well. I've been at this a while but am just now learning how to really control my water retention. It can be VERY difficult.
It's best not to focus on the scale too much, since so many factors can go into water retention. I would pick a weigh-in day at the time of the week when you know you will be most in-control of your salt (for me it's Wednesday, since the weekends are higher sodium for me). I've started drinking 80+ oz of water a day, which has REALLY helped. Experiment with different lower-sodium foods, and try to cut out as many frozen dinners as you can. Anything that has to have its flavor preserved in the grocery store frozen food case is probably loaded with sodium.
I can always tell by the way my ring fits how much water I'm retaining. If it's fitting pretty loose, I know I'm doing better
It can be extremely discouraging- you just have to keep all of the factors in mind and try not to beat yourself up. If you're eating at a caloric deficit and getting some exercise, you're doing it right!0 -
You can also gain water weight right before/during your period...0
