So, we're planning an 18.4 mile hike for this upcoming weekend. My body is still a little sore from the 10 miles we did yesterday and that, coupled with my MS, makes me think I should take it easy for a few days to be up for this weekend's adventure. I was wondering about others though. I know my situation is a little different that most because of my health issues. But, do you work out everyday or do you have a set amount you try to reach every week as far as calories and or time goes?

I set myself a "weekly" burn goal. Just like my eating calories - if i go over one day, I make up for it the next.
I don't have MS, but I do have chronic back issues that resulted in an artificial disc replacement which has definitely changed my workout plans.
My body lets me know when it's not ready for another burn. I try to listen, because when I've ignored it, i've ended up in worse shape and had to take an entire week off to recover.

I work out daily, just because I feel better when I do. It's my morning coffee. :)

BUT - I don't have MS. If I have other issues (like injured hamstrings a few months ago), I listen to my body. I won't undo years of hard work by taking a rest for a day. Sometimes your body just needs it. You just get back into it when you're ready.

10 miles wow. I feel like I've really accomplished something when I do a 7 mile hike. I often work out every day, even though everything I read says to rest in between. Sometimes I just can't sit still, and I turn off to a local park for a walk/run or a go back to the state park for a nice hike even though I did a hike the day before.

I usually can't help myself with the weights either. Bench pressing 2, 3 days in a row or working the dumb bells the same way.

It's very addictive, this exercise thing!

In your case, perhaps you might consider old adage; Your first instinct is usually the correct one. So maybe some good rest will be for the best.

    Enjoy the weekend hike!
