I'm completely lost.

I've heard that one's calorie intake should be based on height, weight, and anticipation to lose weight. But I also hear that one needs to eat around 1,200-1,500 to lose weight. How many should I be eating? I'm 4'9'' and around 110 pounds, obviously I would like to lose weight too. My BMR is 1,176 if it even helps.
Also, toning of the stomach. I am what is called "skinny fat." My limbs and butt are toned and skinny, yet my torso is engulfed in a layer of fat. How can I burn the fat and tone my abdominal muscles?

The amount you need to eat is different for everyone, and yes, it is based on weight, height and how active you are.
I don't know what the healthy weight range is for your height, but at 110 pounds, I'd wonder if you should be focussing on exercise to get stronger muscles and a leaner-looking body rather than cutting cals to lose wight.0 -
It can get confusing. But what has worked for me is simply eating properly (no junk food, no sweets - only on rare occasions) and exercising every day - I now walk 2 hours a day and go to the gym 3 times a week for weights and cardio. 45 mins max each session.
The most important thing to do is is when you increase your exercise amount you need to increase you food intake. If you starve yourself your metabolism will slow down and your activity actually ends up counting to LESS of a burn. By keeping your body's metabolism up, you maintain a steady weight loss.
But it's a balance. One day you might go over calories, one day you might go under, all you need to focus on is achieving your balance - how many calories did you NET (after exercise) each day this week? Flatten it out and get your average. If this average is within your recommended BMR, or just SLIGHTLY under, you're going to do absolutely fine. Just keep ACTIVE!
Remember: walking just 10 mins each day is better than running one hour straight once a month.0 -
I'm 5'1'' so a little taller than you. When I NET 1200 calories I loose 1 lb a week. typically 1500 calories will maintain for me. I used to be 107 lbs and that was just as much the case for me then as it is now.
Dunno if that helps you or not, but as someone else who is vertically challenged I thought I'd tell you what works for me.
as for the abs. I've read, and have found to be true...it's all about the diet. Clean up the diet & burn that little bit of fat and the abs will show!0 -
If you entered all of your information into the MFP profile, how many calories does it say you should be eating? I have been following the MFP numbers are they are working for me.0

Set your goal to you BMR and net it. I'm assuming you will be exercising so you will be eating more than 1200 calories. Make sure you eat back your exercise calories.
If you're worried about skinny fat and ab muscles, I suggest you start weight lifting. You can't spot reduce fat, but a good diet will help.
At your height, I think it is reasonable to want to lose weight and tone up. 110 is a low weight, but you're small so it is understandable to me. What is your goal set to?0 -

this. From everything I'm reading you need 1300-1500 cals and strenght training. You want to lift- heavy. research New Rules of Lifting for Women. You can find threads here, you'll see. do that or P90, Insanity and it will tone you but I suggest the lifting - I'm doing that next - cause you get to eat a lot. Eat more protein & lift, it will sculpt you0
