Am I deluding myself to think that i can actually lose the last 20-25 pounds!!!!! I am so frustrated! I only lost 1 pound last week, so I went into my account and changed the weight loss per week from 1 pound to 1 1/2 pounds, which lowered my caloric intake by 200 cal. per day. I am honestly trying to be very accurate when I log my food, and I am staying within the calories I'm allowed. I upped my exercise from 5 days a week to 6.....what do I have to show for it? A GREAT BIG GOOSE EGG!!!!! I lost NOTHING this week!

I know there is a situation that is beyond my control....I am hypothyroid, my medication isn't correct right now. The dr. just changed my medication and the dose. (I took my first pill yesterday) It takes 2 months for the new medicine to be in my system, so I KNOW that has a part to play in this whole thing. However, knowing that fact doesn't make me feel any better!!!

I feel like, what is the point? Why work my tail off, why write down every morsel of food? My body is literally working against me! I have be struggling for 7 years with this thyroid. No matter how much I exercise, no matter how much or little I eat, I can't get below a size 14 pant! (Right now I'm a size 16).

I struggled with anorexia when I was a teenager. When I saw the number on the scale this morning, my first thought was to go back to the anorexia! It wasn't healthy, but at least I was skinny! The really sad thing is....when your anorexic, no matter how thin you are, you still feel fat! So even though I was very thin, I couldn't even enjoy it!

I'm just feeling so very frustrated and defeated right now!

You LOST one pound last week! Great job! That is why we are all here to lose weight and you did it! Hopefully this week you will lose another pound, that is what I'm hoping for! I struggle very hard to lose weight, it is not easy for me, or any of us. But as long as we continue to move forward with healthy eating and excercise then we will be doing what is best for our overall health.
Besides, you might have really lost 2 pounds of fat, but gained some muscle weight. Either way, you did lose overall and that is great!
  • I'm sorry that you are having a hard time right now. Just remember that in two months your medicine is going to kick in. In the meantime, because you are working so hard, you will not gain like if you were not working out. I had been diagnosed with graves disease when I was pregnant. It was supposed to reverse after my pregnancy and turn into hypo. I was supposed to be retested when my baby was a few months old. I never went back. I believe that it may have reversed and I am waiting to get insurance so that I can go to the doctor. My weight just started suddenly springing up. No matter how much I tried to watch what I ate, I am gaining. I see from recording my calories and my food intake for the past two days, that I really was not eating as well as I thought. So my problem may not be thyroid linked at all. Anyway, I am sorry that you are having such a rough time. Just take it easy on yourself. You did lose a pound this week even with your thyroid condition. I think thats awesome!!! One day at a time, one pound at a time, you'll get there if you keep trying!!

I agree the scale doesn't always tell you what is going on. I use my clothes as a better measure when they are getting lose or I am having to buy new clothes. I know it is a lot of work and sometimes it feel hopeless but keep going you can do it! I am a size 18 and want to get into a size 6 or 8 wedding dress by november which means i have to lose 60 lbs by late Sep early Oct. so I have time to order the dress. I know I might not make the 60 lbs by then but I will make it, I want to look amazing for my new husband!!! I have pictures of the dress I want posted all over the house as motivation!! My hunny thinks I am so funny but it work! Good Luck!
  • I'm sorry for the frustration you are experiencing right now. It's maddening when we work, work, work towards a goal and don't see the reward we are looking for. Given that it takes two months for you new medication to kick in perhaps it would be a good time to slightly redefine your definition of 'success'. As women we so often get caught up in a certain size or number on the scale, when really the focus should be optimum health. While you are waiting for the medication to kick in perhaps success can be defined as more energy, healthy heart, calm mind, healthy menu, etc. Our society often defines us by the outside packaging and this thought process short changes all of us. You are doing great! Just keep up with the healthy living and take it one day at a time....

I just remind myself that my life isn't really going to be that much different when I reach my goal from what it is now. It's the journey that counts....the learning to live healthy, making right food choices, etc. Otherwise I'll end up right back where I started from or even worse.

    Hang in there....it'll get better.

  • Don't give up!

I have been struggling with a thyroid disorder for years...but my doctor kept telling me there was no reason to test...I just needed to get more active.

So here I am. I've been working out (HARD), and eating right for a year, actually more than a year now...and in that time I lost almost nothing.

Now that I've been tested and have started medication (about a month ago)...I am more hopeful that I have a shot at losing.

But even if I don't...I can't tell you how those lifestyle changes have changed my entire world. I won't give up my workouts, my endurance was hard won! So even if weight loss isn't the result...you should still stick with it and not give up. Because it's not all about the pounds. It's about the quality of life, strength, health, and pride.

Wait, didn't you say your plan calls for 1 lb a week, and you lost a pound last week. That sounds like you are right on track. Don't get frustrated! This stuff takes a loooooong time. If you try to drop lots of weight all at once, it will probably come back on because you don't give your body time to adjust to the new weight. I would say look at it this way, if you loose 1 lb a week, in 2 months you will have lost your 25 lbs.

I think you are doing FINE!! Really!! DOnt be hard on yourself..this is a tough battle.

Honestly, I would be THRILLED TO DEATH to lose an entire pound in one week.....I've been getting these .2 losses for way too long and I'm sick of it!!

    Hang in there!!
  • Yes, I lost 1 pound LAST week, but this week I lost NOTHING!!! That's why I'm so frustrated!

Anyway, thanks so much for all the support. I know I need to look at the big picture of health and fitness, and not so much the numbers on the scale. The scale has never been my friend!
