So I have read so many posts stating to only weight yourself once a week or every few weeks. And I totally understand this...but I can't help myself getting on the scale every single morning.

How do I kick the habit? Please help!

Put it in the closet! That's what I did! Good luck!

I used to be obsessed with the scale also. Now I weigh myself once a week. I had to put the scale away, so I couldn't see it. It helps, or at least it helped me.
Weighing myself daily was discouraging too.
    Good luck

Try giving the scales to a friend or family member who will hold them hostage for however long you agree to.

Give it to someone else for a couple of months...or forever:-) and rely on how you feel and how your clothes fit rather than on what the stupid numbers are saying!

i honestly don't see what is wrong with weighing yourself everyday. if you do it at the same time every day then it's going to be pretty accurate on your progress. i know they've done studies showing that people who weigh themselves everyday maintain their weightloss at a much higher rate than those who don't. when you weigh yourself everyday and you see that you've gained a little, you know that you need to step it up a bit. I think weighing yourself everyday is great. I'm about 8 weeks pregnant and I don't want to gain that much weight with this pregnancy so I plan on monitoring my weight on a daily basis. i stopped weighing myself with my first daughter and put on 50lbs. that will not happen again.

i hope this helps. if you're weighing yourself like 5 times a day, then yes, maybe you need a break. but if it's only once a day in the morning or something, I think it's perfectly fine.

for me, weighing myself everyday led to far more dangerous habits. it became an obsession. even though i logically knew that my weight would fluctuate on a daily basis, i would get so discouraged if it went the wrong way, leading me to things that still frighten me to think about.

Now your case is probably not be nearly as extreme but i do consider weighing obsessively to be a "gateway" habit as its been called. and i definitely agree with others when is they say to hide it or give it to someone to hold onto.

I am obsessed too, so don't feel alone. I put mine in the closet but I still get it out every morning and weigh myself so that trick didn't work.
I just think if you know there will be fluctuations and you can accept them then go for it.
If it drives you nuts and you think about it all day, stop weighing everyday. Everyone is different so do what feel right for you.

I weigh myself at bedtime in my nightshirt and first thing in the morning after using the toilet, also wearing the same nightshirt. I record both weights. It allows me to see that my weight fluctuates a bit and reminds me also that i have not reached my goal.

Under no circumstances do I change my attitude, eating, or exercising based on the weight I record. My plan stays the same no matter what.

And, yes, I did weigh myself on the scale at the vet when I took my dogs in this week. I weigh less on their scale than I do at home so maybe I'll weigh there more often.

My name is Carmen and I'm a weigh in everyday slave to my scale addict. :smokin: I do weigh everyday but my thinking has changed. I realize logically that there are 3500 calories in a pound so if my scale bumps up 6 oz or 2 pounds so what. I hate to see it, but I know that unless I consumed 3500 calories above and beyond what I burned off then I couldn't have gained actual pounds. I know that if I just keep doing the right things that all of the weight will eventually come off. It's a mind game. If I don't weigh myself everyday then I tend to get too lax. If I go to weighing once a week I get into the mind set mid week that I can "cheat" and it won't matter because I'm not close to weigh in day. Nope, it's better for ME if I weigh everyday. So, I weigh everyday but only log my weight once a week on the same day.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Barbie-

I guess I'll have to try that vet scale trick myself. That might be as much fun as the old "hold on to the towel bar" hint I posted awhile back on the 50+ women's thread. To those who weren't there, I suggested to see a lower number on your digital scale, grab on to the towel bar and exert a little downward pressure as you are stepping on. If your scale is like mine, it can be good for up to 5 pounds!!!  It IS good for the soul, but remember, you can't start eating like you BELIEVE that number!!!

To answer the orginal poster's concern, I would say, do it daily if that feels more comfortable for you, but DON'T allow yourself to fall off the wagon, just because there is a number you don't like!! For myself, before I started the program in mid-April, when I was weighing, it was every day, but I decided to try the once a week on same day (in the morning, after using toilet and before eating or drinking anything). That has worked really well for me.

I chose Sunday because the way my schedule is I usually do my most extensive workouts on Friday and Saturday.

    Good luck with your progress.:flowerforyou:

    Hi Im angl
I am also a weigh on the scale everyday addict. I feel like a confession at AAA. Anyway, if I dont weigh myself I feel that the lbs will start adding up. If I do not weigh myself....its like a gorge myself day. I know its a mental thing. I have to weigh myself everyday and my scale is like one of those Dr. office scales. It will not fit in any of my closets. Is this a bad thing?

If it works for you and keeps you on track without you jumping on the scale everytime you walk past it, I don't see any harm.

BTW that fur baby in your avatar is TOTALLY ADORABLE!!!:heart: What is his or her name?
