I'm back on cortisone for a week and whenever I drink cortisone I gain a lot of weight - I'm constantly hungry (ravenous is a better word) and thirsty. I swell up and just feel terrible! How can I prevent gaining weight this time? Any advice will be much appreciated!

I do believe that any of the steroid medications have that effect. I had to be on prednisone 3 times in 3 months last fall--I always had an increase in appetite on them.
That being said, I think the trick is to try to eat low calorie things that will fill you up, but not blow your calories.Add a huge salad to lunch and dinner...add a bowl of berries to breakfast...stuff like that0 -

Yeah, I'm also on prednisone ~ it is absolutely amazing how hungry it makes me feel. Tonight when I couldn't stand it anymore, I ate a lot of spinach! Thanks for your good advice! Should have thought of that earlier!0 -
I used to joke that I wanted to eat "everything but the Oink".
Luckily, I have managed to NOT have to be on prednisone for 5 months now0 -
You drink it? I thought it was an injection...
Sorry, I have nothing constructive to say. I'm just curious about that.0 -

Yes, prednisone comes in pill form but it is basically cortisone as I understand it. It also has a lot of short term and long term side effects and one can get addicted to it very easily (within 7 days)... unfortunately it is the only thing that works for my asthma. I hope my lungs will be better soon so that I can get off this crap!0
