What is the general opinion on BMI depending on height and body build? Does it matter to body built whether you should weigh what the BMI charts say for your height? I have known thin people who are told to be slightly over weight due to the BMI chart but would like emaciated if they would lose weight. I've also known people who are average weight and have been told they are obsese because of the BMI chart.

BMI is used to gather data on a population. It's an OK tool for the average person but should not be relied on so heavily. There are other methods to measure progress as well as just weight and BMI.

Many people who have a bigger bone structure, or more muscle mass, are classed as overweight or obese when using the BMI. Other measurements of progress could include, waist circumference (there is a "dangerous" size when a person is more at risk of heart disease etc although I'm not exactly sure what that is) body fat %, resting HR, blood pressure...

BMI is a statistical measure, and means little to each individual. While a number on the scale is a nice goal, really, most want to look a certain way. If you eventually look that way, does it matter what the scale or BMI says?

Your body build very much matters for whether the BMI is a reasonable target for you. As is often stated, all bodybuilders would classify as obese or overweight even at less than 10% bf because of their weight to height ratio.
