Is drinking a protein shake after a run or workout good for weight loss? I recently started drinking a whey protein shake and I don't know if I should be.

Protein shakes aren't meant to really be used for weight loss, they don't have something in them that will cause your body to start burning fat quickly.

They are mainly used as a supplement whilst lifting weights. If you aren't hitting your protein goals from food, people tend to have a protein shake to knock it up without having so many carbs, fat and sugar. So you won't lose weight drinking these, weight loss is determined by the amount of calories you are eating for your body.

If you eat over your TDEE, you will slowly gain weight, if you eat below your TDEE, you will slowly lose weight.

A protein shake can be used for multiple purposes, but ultimately it stimulates muscle recovery. It is able to not only provide mass (for those looking to body build, with higher caloric intake) but can also promote lean muscle growth (with cardio and lower calories), which helps metabolism. In short, yes, it's fine for weight loss, everything is ultimately calories in < calories out.
As an edit, I realize that while it may not help WEIGHT loss, it will certainly aid in SIZE loss. So, inches yes, weight maybe not, as lean muscle mass will still weigh more than the same area of fat tissue.

protein shakes are mostly used for the extra protein while weight lifting or after a workout to help with muscle repair its not really for weight loss per say but it does generally help your muscles not feel so sore. or at least thats my opinion :P

I am losing fine while drinking them. I usually have one for breakfast and one after a workout. Often, I mix it with a banana, low fat milk and ice. I find that I am fuller when I have them so that helps with weight loss.
