I was just wondering what you guys think or have heard about taking one rest day a week from exercise. I'm wondering if it is important to only work out 6 days a week to help the body heal. I have been doing hard cardio 7 days a week but am wondering if I should do that. Any thoughts are appreciated!

I hope you all had a great weekend!

I have recently read every fitness book from my library, and almost every one says at least one day of rest, some insist on two days. That was true for both cardio and strength training.

I take 2-3 days off a week for rest. (like sunday and thursday) It just depends on the week and how I feel. I think it is good to exercise but it is also good to let your body heal and recharge. My workouts are always better after I take a day off.

Yes it's very important for both fitness and weight loss.
  • As a runner currently training for a half marathon, I always take at least one day a week completely off. I only run 3-4 times/week and do strength and/or cross training the other days. Your body needs the day or two off to repair and grow.
