Weight lifting at the gym?

Hi
how many times a week are you supposed to do weight lifting at the gym using the machines, I work every muscle group in 1 day, is this the correct way to go about it?

    If you are doing a Full Body Workout then every other day is plenty. M-W-F or T, Th, Sat.

    Generally, 3 days is a good starting point. Some people will lift 4-5 days per week.
