is there much difference between calories burned on the crosstrainer and the elliptical? the only difference i noticed between the two is that the crosstrainer uses your arms too, if there is differences - which is the best to use?

If you do an image google of crosstraining machines, and one of elliptical, you will see they are identical machines. The only difference you will find in these machines is some of them feature stable handles that don't move in addition to the moving ones, giving you the option of a workout that doens't involve your arms - therefore fewer calories burned. When I first started using ellipticals, I couldn't use the arm handles - it was just too much for me. I had to build endurance over time before I could use them for any amount of time. Now, I only don't use the handles when I need a recovery minute.

To answer the actual question is difficult - if using the moving handles on the elliptical increases your heart rate (and therefore your calorie burn) by only 8bpm, it can be a significant increase in difficulty, and therefore produce better results - or wipe you out in 10 minutes or less! depending on your fitness level.
