hi all,
i'm going out for a friends birthday this weekend and we are going to a chinese restaurant. though i know i will probably go over my calorie allowence, i want to make sensible decisions if i can. does anyone have any ideas on what chinese foods/ meals are lower in calories than others?

  • Actually, a Chinese restaurant can be one of your best bets when dining out. Skip the appetizers, and go with a stir fried dish (beef and broccoli, or similar). Skip sweet and sour anything or crispy anything. If you have to have rice, get brown rice if they have it and watch your portion size, you really don't want more than 1/2 to 2/3 cup of rice. Also, the portion sizes at most Chinese places tend to be out of control. Box up half and take it home.

My local sit down chinese place does a dish that is basically steamed veggies with steamed chicken and the sauce on the side. Its served with rice but I skip that.

Another alternative is ordering sushi if they have it. You can't go crazy since all the rice in sushi is pure carbs, but you can eat a good meal.

Miso soup is excellent low calorie option.

I usually go for the steamed dumplings.
