Who here has used a home wax kits? How did it work out for you and what did you use it for?

My friend tried to wax her legs and spilled hot wax all over her arm and burned it pretty bad so I'm a bit weary. Though, waxing lasts so much longer than shaving so I am feeling brave!

Any recomendation for which wax to use/not use, or any particular method?

You can buy those packs that come with pre-waxed strips. You just rub them between your palms, it warms up, pull them apart and apply.

Get pre-wax strips.....not as messy and you won't burn yourself!

Yeah those don't work so well lol usually they just make the area sticky. It's really hard to get the wax on the strips hot enough to actually pull any hair off without making it so hot that it burns you (never use a blow dryer, lol I've heard bad things about this before!)

I've tried them and I've gotten professionally waxed... SO WORTH THE MONEY. Go to a salon. Otherwise you're going to end up in pain with crummy results.

I believe it does to an extent! I mean, it still does hurt but it's at least not ripping off my skin.

They work pretty well and while they do make the area sticky, they also come with a little bottle of oil that you apply on a tissue or cotton ball after waxing and it removes all the stickiness and conditions the skin.

I have a reaction to most wax products so I have to go have it done professionally with some special wax product that doesn't make me break out.. but I found that the pre-wax strips gave me the least problem for at-home treatments..

SOOO true. I have thick brown hair and all those things manage to do it leave stickiness on me and a red spot. Even for simple hairs they leave them behind.

Take the ouch out of waxing

Sure, waxing is the quickest way to smooth your bikini line, but the last time you used an at home kit, you shrieked so loudly the neighbors called! To sidestep the pain, dust the area with baby powder before applying the wax. The powder will absorb moisture and body oils so the wax can properly adhere to each hair, plus it will create a barrier to protect your skin. The result: weeks of smooth skin with much less pain. Dusting on a little powder before shaving protects against razor burn, too.


I also will put baby powder under my arms and shave like that with a razor (not wet) I get less razor burn that way.

I use a wax warmer with the hard wax, not creme as it just does not come off well and I find it sticky to the point of idiocy. I wax my legs and underarms because I get seriously bad/painful ingrown hairs no matter what when shaving.

I used to be a beauty journalist and never found an at-home waxing kit that worked well. Instead I use an epilator (Braun Silk-épil Xpressive) on my legs, underams and bikini line. Simple, no messy wax and it has an interchangable head so it can be used as a shaver too. Yes, it will hurt the first few times; just take a couple of painkillers, get on with it and the pain will reduce - I promise! I can't even feel it when I'm doing my legs now. With underarms I just do it very very quickly. Worth it for a few weeks of hair-free smoothness. And if you get any redness or ingrowing hairs, nappy rash cream is the best thing to use after waxing/epilating.

I get professionally waxed. The only thing I wax myself is my eyebrows. I use a special little pot of microwaveable wax for that.
I TRIED waxing the bikini area myself and almost passed out from the pain. lol It was a horrifying experience. Never again.
I haven't gotten the "lady balls" to attempt my legs yet. I keep envisioning it ending with patches of hair and wax everywhere. I'd rather pay a professional or shave every few days.

Beauty IS pain! lol

It's not that bad and the pain doesn't last long enough to make you regret the results.

I'd never use one again. It took several shots of tequila for me to continue past the first strip. My boyfriend laughed at me and wouldn't even help me to yank the third strip off. I think I ended up going to the salon to have the job finished. Worst hangover ever!
