Just curious if anyone knows anyone who has participated in the Special Olympics. If so, what event and how did the experience impact that person's life. Thanks.

My Brother actually competed in bicycling in Greece last summer. I don't know if it had huge impact on his life, but I know that he enjoyed every minute of it and he even brought home a couple medals. The kid rides circles around me.0

My son has competed two separate times. He will again as he gets older. He will be going to high school next year where he will be on the swimming/diving team. He's really gifted. The last two years, special olympics and swimming/diving were at the same time. My son loved it. It was good exercise. It was good fellowship. It made him feel successful. I'ts a total win/win for everyone. In our state there is a big celebration for the opening ceremonies and also a dinner/dance as well. Our entire family had a ball. I would recommend it to anyone.0

I work in Special Education, so my students participate in it.. and they love it.
From Basketball, to swimming, to track and field, to gymnastics.. you name the sport, they've prob. competed in it. One of my students even went to nationals for power lifting.
To see them show off their medals after, is something that everyone should experience. They are so excited and so happy, that its just infectious.0 -
thanks for sharing everyone!0
