Camelbak

Anyone use a camelbak? I usually don't carry water out on a run but as of late I have been hearing horror stories and I'm wondering if I should get one. I do have a fuel belt but hardly use it as I find it gets in the way. I don't like holding anything in my hand. I have started off with a bottle of water on a few occasions but then toss it.
If anyone has one let me know how it is and if it's worth it for me to buy.
Thanks :drinker:

How long are you running for?
Unless it's really warm - maybe over 25deg C - you should be ok for an hour as long as you are reasonably hydrated to start with. In a race situation water will usually be provided. For training you could stop and buy water somewhere en route.
Ultimately it;s a weight thing - even a basic Camelbak with 2pints of water is going to weigh 3lbs or so - which isnt a whole lot but it is significant. I rarely carry water unless mountain biking - and then it;s more convenience than anything - and I am going to be out for maybe 4 hrs.0 -
Being in the military I have used camelbaks for years. I love them! I dont do long enough exercise to use one now. I am considering starting to ruck again and might break it out.0

Awkward/uncomfortable to use & carry, hard to keep clean & sanitized, makes water smell & taste funny. A "use a couple times and toss to the back of the closet" item.0

I love my Camelbak. I got the smaller woman's version and use it all the time, including in races (I PR'd by being able to run right through all the water stops
)
It doesn't hold as much, I think about 32oz? But it's plenty - I normally use less than half but it's nice to have more just in case. It's not noticeably heavy, and I think it's much more comfortable than a fuel belt with bottles- I hated mine. Plus, I can keep my phone/keys/gels/etc in it.
I have never noticed any strange taste, and fine it pretty easy to remove the bladder and wash it out.0 -
LOVE my camelbak for the long runs...used it in my marathon and it was well worth it because I had a constant water supply (I put nuun tablets in mine)...0
