Talking BMI rather than weight | what's your target?

Given that a healthy BMI can be found in a pretty wide range, how does the weight you chose as target translate in BMI?

I think I would like to aim at a BMI of 21, which shifts my weight target to 60 kg rather than 62 kg.

So what about you?

22.5 came to mind - middle of 20 - 25, no other reason. I was pleased to go from obese to overweight and now to healthy :-)

I'm not saying weight is precisely the most accurate form of measurement either, but BMI by itself is almost totally worthless. If you want a really great measure- go with body composition (aka %body fat)- you can do this by getting it measured professionally or you can even buy your own set of calipers fairly cheap. I just say this because for a lot of people, a "normal" BMI isn't even really reasonable. I have a very slight frame, but I'm tall, so while I'm still smack dab in the middle of my BMI range, I'm definitely still a little overweight for my own frame. On the other hand, my boyfriend is the same height as I am (short for a man) and pretty muscular, and he falls over the "norm" of 25- but he's clearly not "overweight" by any stretch of the imagination.

So- I guess my point is be careful with BMI, it's a good reference, but unless you're measuring other things as well it may not portray a very accurate picture :)

    Good luck!

165 is the top of my BMI scale. Once I hit that, I am going for 160.

My BMI goal is 22.1 I would be there if I were 141 pounds and that would be 100 pounds lost

That being said my real goals are the following

    Size < 36" jeans (currently 38)
Fit back into my underdog t-shirt Size medium: (currently some Large T-Shirts fit, some dont)
Run 3.2 miles without dying (Did 2 today)
Get rid of my moobs. (getting there and I don't particularly "mooby" with a shirt on.
Finish the warrior dash (working on my fitness level and I have until Sept 15th to get ready)

I hope to hit 22.1 by March 13th, my next birthday. It seems possible. We'll see how thin I am as I get close as thin is my ultimate goal, well that and fit.

Aim for a bf% vs a BMI or scale weight

I just chose a weight that put me at a decent volume of lean mass plus about 16-19% body fat. This puts me around 150-155 and a BMI of about 23 with about 120-130 pounds of lean body mass.

BMI is as useless as a specific weight goal. BFP (Body Fat Percentage) is the way to go. And with that...10% and I'd be rocking like an all-star

I go by how my husband looks at me. If it's the wolf look I know I'm on the right track:wink:

I don't have a BMI goal since I think BMI is utter garbage and not accurate at all.... according to BMI even when I was a size 5, 125 and able to run 5 miles a day in the army I was "obese" according to BMI.

Last time I was at a healthy weight according to BMI, my doctor told me to gain weight and people were asking me if I was critically ill. I don't have a target BMI.

Wow, how short are you? The BMI chart I'm looking at only goes to 4'8" and at 125 lbs you'd still be a 28 and just overweight!
