Multiple Sclerosis & exercise

I have had MS for 5 years now but I am fortunate in that it causes me very few problems. Mainly altered sensation in my hands & feet, concentration problems & some depression in the past (long gone now & not allowed to return!!) I work as nurse on phone lines which means that I can keep doing my job. I had gastric bypass 18 months ago as the weight was making the MS worse & I needed to stop it all from getting worse. In the last year I have been increasing my exercising without falling over (balance problems!) but things have changed in this last 2 weeks.

My Mum died not unexpectedly but the stress of the last few years has knocked me over since the funeral. Now I am in the midst of an MS crisis & I am not sure what to do about the exercise. I am being sensible with what I do but if I don't do something & am not sleeping at night. Whole days spent in bed are not a good option but all I am managing is a swim & a bit of treadmill 2-3 times a week. I feel like I am wading through treacle.........
I am in consultation with my GP & MS nurses but I would be interested in others experience. Do you exercise through it gently or rest totally?!?!?
