OMG. Protein Shake Before you Workout?? WTF.

I'm curious. I see a lot of articles/discussions/commentary about how important it is to consume a protein shake or something similar within a half hour to an hour after a workout, but what would happen if you drank it BEFORE you started working out?
Would your body still be able to utilize the nutrients? Does it defeat the purpose? Will the world cease to exist!?

I'm pretty sure yes. I'm not sure. Probably, plus your muscles will fall off!
Seriously though, have it when you want it!0 -
yes no and no :drinker:0

What do you have against having one right after your workout? Some people do a shake before AND after...0

I think the answer is shart.
Try some BCAAs.0 -
yes, depends, no
I like that BCAAs idea...0 -
I often do one before, mixed with my coffee. I never do one after. Nutrient time isn't that important.0

Same thing that would happen if you drank it after your workout, nothing.0 -
If you can workout with something in your stomach, go fo it.
But BCAA is really the best answer0 -
I don't get this , I never drink a protein shake before or after , I know there's protein in my body from earlier so there's no point.0

From the day before even.0 -
Assuming that you're consuming adequate total protein intake, when you consume it is not going to make an appreciable difference.0

The Primary Laws of Nutrient Timing
The First Law of Nutrient Timing is: hitting your daily macronutrient targets is FAR more important than nutrient timing.
The Second Law of Nutrient Timing is: hitting your daily macronutrient targets is FAR more important than nutrient timing.0 -
The anabolic window lasts 24 hours, so it does not matter when you consume your protein during the day. As long as you get enough of it pertaining to your goals then it's fine.0

Absolutely nothing against it. In fact I always have a one handy after my workout, I was just wondering how important the timing was.0 -
I have a before and after. Shock horror!!! The after I consume within 10 minutes of lifting my last weight with either Vitargo or Dextrose. The carbs help to shove the protein quicker into the places its needed.....0

I don't know the science of it, but personally I would generally take a protein shake before my workout only when it's a morning workout and that's my first meal because it's light and the protein will be useful for my muscles.
But generally I workout in the evening/afternoon so I leave it till after as I eat alot of protein from food sources in any meal I have.
But like the HodgeTwins would say...at the end of the dayyyyyy...protein is protein0 -
