People always say that exercise helps but for me it makes it worse. Are there specific ones that you do to help?

I was cramping really horribly this morning. I decided to try doing some pilates. It actually helped quite a bit. I took some ibuprofen after as well so that may have helped.

I don't think there is any one specific exercises that ease them. I find I like biking and the elliptical during this time because I don't jostle around that much, and when I am done the cramps have diminished. But then again, I personally find exercising in general helps. Just hang in there :flowerforyou:

For me.... core work, or any kind of ab work..... If I do ab work consistantly about 3 times a week, I don't have any cramps....

doing some relaxing yoga stretches helps me out a lot... but copious advil helps even more.

here's some nice stretches if you aren't familiar: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4g2j7RX261rtk07fo1_500.jpg

Running for me - it makes it worse for about 15 minutes (but then the first 10-15 minutes of a run is always hard!!) and then after that it is fine.

Walking, if I start before they get too bad (starting slow and speeding up) and Tylenol.

One study found that acetaminophen (Tylenol) reduces levels of female hormones (gonadotropins and estradiol, an estrogen), which may have some beneficial effect on menstrual disorders. A combination of acetaminophen and pamabrom (Women's Tylenol Menstrual Relief) is specifically aimed at treating menstrual pain and bloating. (Pamabrom is a diuretic, an agent used to reduce fluid build-up and bloating.)

Also, the less sugar I eat around this time (although I'm still eating dark chocolate) and more protein I tend not to cramp so terribly either.

    Hope this helps.
