Trouble starting when the double Ss are around.

I'm having a hard time getting started. I mean, I play a sport which makes me practice 3 times a week and then I add some personal, extra practice time in there about 2-3 more times a week. All for either 1.5-3 hours at a time and drinking excessive water during that time. I walk a lot, during lunch, after work with my dog, etc. And I don't eat a lot of sweets, most of the time they aren't appealing to me. I eat a lot of chicken and can live off fruits and veggies. I even started cutting down on my portions of red meat and most bad crabs.

However, I'm addicted to soda and sodium (double Ss = double trouble). I've somehow managed to cut my soda intake by 1/2 recently and replaced it with water, but I can't seem to get away from using salt on my food. How do you stop cold turkey? I'm over soda, but if it's right there in front of me (like when I'm out to eat), I drink it. And salt is everywhere!! I can't seem to get myself on a healthy eating diet, so I feel like all the exercise I do is just a waste of time. Does anyone have any tips for this sort of problem?

I use Accent has less sodium. The key is not to use more just cuz it has less sodium!

Cut it out for two weeks, put the salt shaker in a locked drawer somewhere, and then slowly start using it again after the two weeks is up... in smaller quantities. It's like carbs... you need to get your body used to not having it for a while. You'll feel 100% better and less bloated!

Also, try those no salt/no MSG flavour shakers... They come in all sorts of flavours and you can use them on pretty much anything.

    Good luck!

Maybe your body needs it? With all that working out, you might need the extra sodium?

How much is too much? I actually had to increase my sodium intake per my doctor.

Change to all natural sea salt....................

It is much healthier and gives food a different taste...................Foods don't even get that bitter taste if you accidentally sprinkle too much.

Personally, I'm not a fan of "cold turkey". I think the more your body feels deprived, the more likely you are to revert to your old ways. .

I used to be a huge Dr. Pepper & coffee (aka mocha) drinker. I started by reducing from 2-3 coffees a day to only 1 in the morning. At first, on days when I needed more b/c I was super tired I would allow it. Now it's only 1 cup a day except for "treat days" here & there. For soda I started by saying no to fountain drinks & yes only to 12oz cans. I figure out my daily average (over 1 week) & over the next few weeks I cut that by 1 every time I realized I had stopped craving that extra one. If I was having a hard time saying no b/c I wanted something sweet I'd drink a Vitamin Water 10 instead (a lot less sugar, but still sweet).

This started 8 or 9 weeks ago & now I have my daily coffee & maybe 1 or 2 sodas per week. I've even noticed that I won't think about Dr Pepper unless I see it & even then I don't crave it.

Since I work out in the evenings & most of my days are really long, I'll have an FRS healthy energy drink (low calorie version) or sugar free Red Bull before the gym if I need a pick me up.

    I hope that helps :)
