Hi, I'm Mel...

Gooday to you!
I'm Melanie, I've been on MFP for nearly a month now. Within that time I have not lost as much as I hoped I would, but I'm getting there anyway, MFP is definitely a great help.
I'm 27 years old and French but currently live in Christchurch, New Zealand (yes we had an earthquake this afternoon but no new damage has been reported).
I've left France 8 years ago, lived in England for 6, Australia for 1 1/2 and New Zealand for 9 months. In 3 weeks, I will head back to France to live and study there for a few years before I hit the road again. Scary move!
During my travels, I have collected incredible experiences and memories as well as a few unnecessary extra kilos... I weighed 74kgs when I arrived in NZ and that was the heaviest I ever was. SInce then, I've been hiking and running a lot, I've lost a few kilos but I'm not there quite yet.
I don't feel ashamed to say I need support though. I need to get in touch with people who try to loose weight too because I know very well my family and friends will stuff me up for the first few months when I finally get back home. But I don't want to gain weight again, I've been doing so well!
I don't want to be rude and invite randomly people to be friends with me, but if you read this message and care to share your ups and downs with me, please invite me as a friend!
Good luck to everyone on MFP!

    Hey Mel,

We're already friends on here but I just had to say.... what an incredible life you lead! I'm very jealous, i'd love to be about travel as you are. My life feels like i'm stuck in a rutt! Same old thing day in day out. I can't afford to travel (until my husband starts to earn more!) so much so, i let my passport expire 7 years ago (thought it was pointless wasting money renewing it if I wasn't going to be leaving the UK). It doesn't bother me too much as I love our country and there is still so much of it I haven't seen yet.

Good luck with your weightloss journey and all your travels - I hope that one day i can be as free as you are to travel the world x
  • Thanks Jude! I'm not that free: you'd be surprised how many times my family has told me 'come back home and get married already!' during these 8 years. My father is even whispering things I don't seem to understand... It sounds a lot like 'grand children' though...
So sure enough, I've gone away and learnt a lot, but I'm a few years behind in finding a partner and making a family...
A gain for a loss in both your situation and mine!
Let's hope we stick to the loss on MFP though!
    =)
