Too much protein?

hi all, I've read through a lot of other posts and the stickies but can't seem to find an answer to my question - so apologies in advance if similar has already been asked.

I realise I've only been logging all my food for five days now and I have to say I'm learning a lot! However, I've noticed that each day I'm going over my protein allowance.

First question, is this a problem?

Second question, I'm not sure what to do about it!! I notice also that I'm under on my fat allowance, so what do I do - eat a lump of butter to push that up but then my calories go sky high!!

I'm managing to keep to around about my suggested calorie intake but I'm obviously (I presume) doing something wrong somewhere!

I haven't weighed myself yet so don't know whether I'm losing anything yet (it's still very early days, I realise that!).

Any help greatly appreciated :o)

You are doing just fine. MFP's default settings tend to be high in carbs and low in protein. You can reset them to suit your own goals by going to goals, change, custom. You may want to bump the protein up to say 30%, the carbs to 40 and let the fats fall wherever they do. See if that doesn't make more sense for you. No harm in going over on protein really.

Fats don't make you fat so don't worry about more of them as long as you stay in your calorie goal.

you just want to keep the carbs and fats in check, it's ok to go over on protein.

mmapags said it well, it never hurts to go over your protein. Normally you would like to have between .3 and .5 grams of protein per body weight. So about half of your body weight. I now weigh 165 pounds and try to have at least 100 grams per day. Alot of body builders have approx 2-300 grams a day which would be too much for you but doesn't harm them in anyway.

Going over on protein is good. Don't worry about that.

You probably shouldn't worry if you're under on fat but if you're really far under, things like almonds and olive oil have good fats in them so you could eat a serving of almonds for about 150 cals if you need to add more good fat.

I changed mine to 40% carbs, 40% protein, and 20% fat. I was just ignoring it at first but I got tired of seeing the red numbers even when I thought I was short on protein.

The only caution I would throw out there - is the extra work it puts on your kidneys to process it. If you aren't over by HUGE amounts, and your kidneys work fine - it is probably fine.

Thanks so much for all the informative replies - obviously wasn't such a daft question! I'll keep an eye on my protein levels but won't let it stress me out.

Thanks for the tip re eating nuts as well - love them and hadn't thought of having any this week - will put them on my shopping list.

Still having to get my head round making sure I eat ALL my calories each day but fingers crossed it's going ok so far - fingers crossed for a loss when I weigh myself next week. Thanks again :flowerforyou:
