I started MFP last july and to my surprise I have had great success. Now I'm ready to move on to the next phase and tone up and exercise and get aerobically fit. Now that I've gotten there, I WISH I WOULD HAVE TAKEN MEASUREMENTS WHEN I STARTED. That's all, just advice to newbies. get out the measuring tape and FEAR NO CALIPERS. (although I didn't do calipers... )

I'm still on the journey and wish I had taken measurements when I was at my heaviest. It would really be a motivator for me on the days I am struggling.

My advice is to take pictures too. Some of those areas that escape the measuring tape, show up on the pictures. But measuring tape is good too because for example, my problem area is my butt and I don't see it accurately like my friends do even with the pictures but boy do I see other areas well that I am less critical of. It's interesting. The point is to give yourself multiple ways of measuring progress.

it really is strange how we can NOT see ourselves clearly. I started a power point that I updated every weigh day... with music and I even inserted a video.. it was fun... kept my mind on my mission and really helped. I lapsed after a while, but plan on doing another one to record my gym experience
