Starving by 1pm

I am eating protein shakes (90 calories, 1 grm fat) when I wake up. I eat a piece of fruit at 9 am. I am eating salad (vegetables only plus dressing oil/vinegar combination) at 10:30/12:00pm. Between 1-2pm I am starving to the point of chowing of fattening snacks. I want to avoid the starving part and try eating somethings normal and better for you. Help! The rest of the day is fruit then dinner/vegetable.

I would suggest eating some protein in there. Most of your meals are carb based, which will leave you hungry super fast. As much as I love fruit, whenever I eat it, I'm STARVING 2 hours later.

Protein won't cause elevated blood sugar and a carb crash and you'll most likely feel better. The protein shakes, are you using a low sugar version?

I also suggest drinking more water.. for me water pretty much quells my hunger the point where I'm always not wanting to eat more than I should..

Wait...when's lunch? A salad can be a snack but you need to eat lunch...I think...JMO

I seem to have the same problem but I like cottage cheese for a morning snack and I try to make lunch my biggest meal of the day so if I can make it to lunch I know I can make it to dinner. I still have trouble here and there I am taking some appetite suppressants for the moment that seem to keep the starving part down but its not completely gone.

Maybe add some protein to your salad if you're not already (chicken, tuna, hard boiled egg, beans, nuts, etc). I don't know what your calorie "allowance" is but maybe eat more than a 90 calorie protein shake for breakfast--maybe add something else to that? I eat a 300-500 calorie breakfast every morning and it keeps me going for about 4 hours...

Throw some cheese on your salad and add a hard boiled egg :) Protein will help keep you fuller longer

I have cut the fruit, and added protein, lettuce and turkey wrap or cottage cheese and veggies, or cheese stick. The lettuce wrap is really filling and keeps me from starving for a long time. But I agree with the other posters that you need more protein...

I would have a bigger breakfast - I don't know how you survive on only a protein shake and then one piece of fruit at 9am. I would die  After all, breakfast should be the biggest meal of the day! Have some oats or yogurt with berries. Or a boiled egg on multigrain toast.

you cant expect to stay full for long with what you are eating. try eating more, and like others have said, add some protein to that salad.

Of course you're starving by 1, you aren't eating anything.

your metabolism is faster in the beginning of the day and you have more time to burn off what you eat then, so why not eat at the times you are hungry? make sure the meals you are eating are balanced with carbs, proteins, and healthy fats as well, because this will make them more satisfying.

    Carbohydrates make you incredibly hungry.

They also are the cause of body fat.

Adopt a protein and fat based diet.

Eat a MODERATE amount of carbohydrates .. 70 to 100 grams per day. No more.

Not at all true. Overconsumption of calories causes body fat.

Def add protein. I eat 2 eggs, 2 pieces of turkey bacon, half an avocado and some OJ - I don't get hungry until about noon. (but I still usually try to eat some greek yogurt around 10. Good luck! :)

You have no protein listed minus the protein shake you have when waking up. You need protein and fibre to keep you full longer. Have some peanut butter on an apple for your fruit in the morning. Add some cheese, turkey, chicken, beans to your salad.

Carbs don't make me hungry. Not eating enough makes me hungry.
OP - eat something more Substatial for breakfast and lunch, then you won't be hungry.

Why don't you cut out the protein shake completely and eat actual protein instead? OR have a protein shake plus some sort of breakfast; oatmeal, cereal, eggs, pancakes...something

Put some chicken in your salads.

Ultimately, I think if you add something else with the shake, you will probably feel better.

Add protein to your salad. At least 20 - 30 grams. That will help you feel satisfied longer. Salad can be a meal but you must get in the macros that you need. Veggies alone are not meals. Add meat, eggs, beans or something with protein.

I do shake in AM and that works great for me. I then have a cheese stick or nuts for snack and then lunch. Lunch usually salad with protein, soup, or protein bar.

I agree with everyone else--you need protein. I am on a lower carb diet, and I am hardly ever super hungry. I eat between 300-500 calories EACH for breakfast and lunch, then whatever is left is snacks/dinner.

    for example:

breakfast-- 2 eggs, 4 slices of soy *bacon*, a slice of cheese and a high fiber tortilla

lunch--3 cups lettuce, 1/3-1/2 cup each of cheese and mushrooms, 1/2 cup or so sliced cucumbers, and 2-4ounces of protein (today it was 2oz each of turkey and summer sausage)

today I was hungrier than usual, so about 330 or so, I had a wheat thins flatbread with an ounce of brie melted on it

We went out to dinner, and I had a TON of calories left, so I had a full sized Cobb Salad at Bob Evans AND half a biscuit ( I could have eaten more biscuit, but since I am cutting carbs, I have limited myself to HALF of one and I enjoy the heck out of it)
