Strange Question Rolling Ankle

So, I am trying to get into running but I have a very strange fear.

For whatever reason a few years ago most likely due to bad shoes I went on a ankle rolling frenzy. Rolled one helping a friend move, rolled the other one coming down a set of stairs.

Since then I have developed this strange fear of rolling my ankles, I feel whenever I wear any thing but my work boots I feel like I am inevitably going to roll my ankles.

So much so that it ends up becoming a self fulfilling prophecy and I end up doing it and yet I am thinking about it constantly.

Maybe sub consciously I am trying too ?

So my question is, any thing I can do to improve my chances of not rolling my ankle? I think I can get past the mental part but it is just this annoying innate fear.

It isn't a debilitating fear or any thing but man it distracts me enough in my attempts to run that I end up switching between focusing on breathing to focusing not spraining my ankles.

Am I doomed to run in basketball shoes ?
