Okay, I'm not a doctor...just a lowly writer...so I could be WAY off with this observation -- but I was thinking about why losing weight slowly seems to work out better in the long run.

I have been losing weight fairly steadily over the past few months at a rate of 1.5 pounds per week, give or take a half pound. This past week, I had a bunch of unexpected family things to deal with and didn't get to the gym to lift. When I weighed myself yesterday, I'd lost FOUR POUNDS. I am fairly certain the reason for the unexpected loss is at least partially due to the fact that I've probably lost some lean muscle mass this week.

Can anyone with experience corroborate that lifting actually slows weight loss but in the end helps you keep it off better? I am in this for the long haul and the last thing I want is to hurry the weight loss along and then balloon back up again. I'd rather it take me 3 years to get to my desired weight!
