    THANK.YOU.

I read it before I knew it was actually Twilight fan fiction. Got to page 100 and though "My god, all women are idiots if they think Christian Grey is anything less than a *kitten* extraordinaire."

It's not the bad writing that bugs me. I liked Twilght for a fun piece of fluff. It's the message.

"Be an uninteresting, simpering nitwit and maybe you'll fall in love with a sociopath who will demand to control ever facet of your existence...and you'll think that's soooo sexy!"

Um no. I have half a brain and I don't find BDSM appealing at all. So I think I'll pass.

Some of us do find BDSM appealing and have more than half a brain. That said, there are varying degrees and facets of the lifestyle that don't require one to give over their entire life and much like how useless Bella was in Twilight, it's the 20 year old ignorant girl-child part I find least appealing.

I'm glad it's less taboo these days, but frankly there are far better erotic novels that involve BDSM that aren't written so poorly. It's pulp, and as long as people read it for what it is, go nuts. Maybe it will open them up to seeking out better literature down the road. If all you want is simple smut, go to literotica.com.

Hey I'm not telling other people not to read it, I'm saying *I* don't want to read it. *I* am tired of people telling *me* to read it. And *I* am going to go postal if people don't stop talking to *me* about it.

 Why bother starting a thread... to talk about it some more??

I'll pass on any series that tries to titillate with BDSM, but spends a lot of time telling us that people who LIKE BDSM are "****ed up."

I read it and it is just not good. It got to the point where I skipped over the sex because it got unbearably boring. AND the writing. The writing is just. UGH.

I was NOT interested in Twilight whatsoever because it's some trashy teenage love story , that has no literary value. This book seems worse, I don't feel the need or want to read a "spin-off" or fan-fic of Twilight. Even without the Twilight aspect of it, I am not interested in reading an erotic novel, or series. As a writer (still in college) it bothers me that these are the types of books that get all of the hype.

Please tell me that you reasonable people on this board will read my Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels when they come out and tell your friends to read them. Sorry, it won't be erotic. :noway:

That's mainly what I read, sci-fi and fantasy, with some regular fiction thrown in for spice. Atwood is a favorite.
I read mostly Sci-Fi Fantasy as well. Mercedes Lackey is a huge fave, as is Piers Anthony. I really enjoyed Twilight tho..it kept me riveted :)

    QFT.

I guess for some people it is appealing because it lets people see, even remotely, a different (err, forgive the pun) shade of the life that they sexually lead. This is also probably one of the (plethora) of reasons why some people get a bit antsy about the subject matter: they may have difficulty reconciling modern female attitudes with what could be considered a "backward" step of female submission. To each their own. I have known many involved in different avenues and aspects of BDSM, so the subject matter itself doesn't phase me.

If I read it (as several friends have suggested that I do) it would be exactly as I read Twilight: as entertainment. I will even admit there were aspects I enjoyed about Twilight: for one the author was brilliant at making you wait to get any "satisfaction" with the relationship, at first anyway. I don't need (or want) everything to be Hemingway or Dostoyevsky. I have enough hours in the day with that sort of thing. As an inconsequential piece of literary fluff, there are a great many books out there which are entertaining without being too "perfect." Of course, we all tend to have preference. No need to stretch beyond that unless that in itself is your wish. My reading preference is too vagrant to be anything less than a literary buffet but I do "get" why people like, and stay committed to, certain genres.

As for hearing a ton about it.... besides REAL people talking.... There are actually people *hired* to go on boards and start topic just like this, it is a form of marketing (sometimes, I do not know if that is being employed here of course). Another example are people speaking loudly on the bus in your city about a certain new "fantastic!!" movie etc. I can't remember what it was called exactly but it was like a form of buzz marketing. Do it well, and people start doing it too, but for free :)

I started to read it, but I wasn't impressed. I'm glad I didn't pay for it.
I didn't find the sex scenes to be very good.
