Hahaha...yeah, there's no way you only burned 45 calories doing 45 minutes of sweaty cardio!
Are you sure it didn't say 450 calories? That would be a lot closer! Or maybe it said "45 min."?
Anyways, I'm 155 lbs. and don't get too sweaty on the elliptical and my burn rates about 10 cal/min.
Like folks say, get an HRM. If you've got an iPhone 4S (note the "S"), then I highly recommend Wahoo's Blue HRM! It's low power bluetooth to your iPhone and it rocks!

I agree: get an HRM (with a chest-strap), you won't regret it! You will be actually surprised to see how many calories you actually burn in a single workout!0
